Migrant in Malaysia
Between 2010 and 2017, the number of documented foreign workers in Malaysia increased from 1.7 million to 2.2 million and as of the end of 2018. According to local news report millions of migrant workers in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia toil in conditions that leave them vulnerable not only to the Covid-19 (coronavirus), but to strict lockdowns imposed to stem the pandemic in host countries. the Covid-19 pandemic bringing the world to a grinding halt, foreign workers have had to bear the brunt of strict lockdowns imposed to stem the spread of the coronavirus. When Malaysia announced the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18, many of the country’s foreign workers faced uncertainty over the payment of wages as well as job security, as the sectors they work in were badly hit.
